Custom Fields
For many events, you'll need to collect specific information from registrants. This could include session preferences, meal choices, or accommodation requirements. To accommodate this, you can use "custom fields."
To manage custom fields, you'll find an add/change/delete system on this page. You can also reorder the fields by simply dragging and dropping them.
To add a custom field, click on "Add New Field."
Custom Field Types
There are six types of custom fields you can choose from:
1. Text Fields: These are single-line fields where registrants can enter text. They're useful for collecting information like preferred name spellings for name tags, special accommodation details, or potluck dish preferences. You can make this field required if you want registrants to enter something.
2. Checkbox: These fields offer yes-or-no choices. Registrants can use checkboxes to indicate session preferences, t-shirt selections, or meal preferences (e.g., vegetarian). You can associate a cost with a checkbox field if you want to allow purchases or charge for certain options. Additionally, you can set an "openings available" limit to restrict the number of selections (useful for limited seat seminars).
Checkbox fields also have a feature called dependent fields. When you create a checkbox, you'll see an option to add dependent fields. These fields are shown only if the registrant selects the parent checkbox option. This allows for dynamic fields based on specific selections.
3. Selection: These fields provide multiple-choice options. They're suitable for breakout sessions where registrants must choose between concurrent sessions. You can also use them for meal selections (e.g., chicken, beef, vegetarian) or t-shirt sizes (M, X, XL). Each option can have an associated cost. You can set a default option, eliminating the need for active selection.
4. Multiline Text Fields: These fields allow registrants to enter multiple lines of text. They're ideal for collecting information like how the registrant learned about the event or the organization.
5. Numeric: Numeric fields are designed for entering numbers. If you need to ensure attendees enter numerical values, use this field type. For example, you can ask how many tickets or guests they're bringing. Numeric fields can also be tied to prices. If you set a price of $10 per ticket, entering '5' will add an extra $50 to the total.
6. Text Caption: This field type is not filled out by users. It serves as a divider to organize registration sections and provide additional instructions or details.
Linking Fields to Packages
Sometimes, you may want certain fields to appear only for specific individuals or member types, rather than everyone. When creating a new field, you'll have the option to tie it to a specific package. If you choose this option, the field will appear only if the registrant has selected the associated package. Otherwise, the field won't be shown. This allows you to create different options based on the chosen package or member type.
