Members vs. Non-Members

In the MMS system, you can set up different event packages for members and non-members. Members will have one rate, while non-members will have another. To enable this feature, follow these steps:

1. Go to MMS configuration and find the event registration configuration section.

2. Look for the option "Restrict Non-Members?". Enabling this option will prevent non-members from selecting member-packages unless they log in to their member account.

Now, let's discuss how to handle the distinction between members and non-members:

There's a trade-off to consider. If you require members to log in before registering for events, it may cause frustration as they may forget their username or password. This could lead them to choose alternative registration methods or even give up on registering altogether, defeating the purpose of online event registration.

On the other hand, if you don't use any method to verify membership, it becomes easier for attendees to register, but there's a risk that some non-members might take advantage and select the member-rate.

A middle-ground option is to use email look-up. When someone registers, their email address is checked against the email addresses of existing members in the database. If a match is found, they are allowed to register with member-packages. If no match is found, they must choose non-member-packages.

To use email look-up, follow these steps:

1. Go to MMS configuration and find the event registration configuration section.

2. Look for the option "Override Non-Member Restriction by Email Look-up". Enabling this option will make member-packages available if the registrant's email address matches a member's email in the database.

Additionally, there is an option called "if fail, prompt to join?". If the email look-up fails to find a match, you can choose to offer the registrant a link to join as a member online. However, if there is an approval process for new members, it's recommended not to use this option.

By using these settings, you can ensure that members receive their appropriate rate while allowing a convenient registration process for both members and non-members.
